2018.04.24 17:09 -RainMan500 Roberto Carballes Baena is going to dilapidate Nadal

They say that fame can be a two-edged sword. And Roberto Carballes Baena knows the feeling all too well as he saunters down the sunny streets of Barcelona, doing his utmost to ignore the fainting of passers-by and the inevitable vehicle collisions as drivers turn to stare. Indeed, as he bends down to retrieve a fallen ice cream for one particularly star-struck young child, his mind is fixed firmly on the evening's activities - and what a night lies in store for the Spanish sensation. After setting David Goffin up on a blind date and joining Aljaz Bedene for a game of musical chairs, it will be time to don the leotard and channel his inner Beyonce as he performs the 'Single Ladies' dance routine alongside Victoria Azarenka. By the time he wakes up tomorrow morning, his memory will be as blank as a cheque from Boris Becker.
He won't be the only one with a hangover, mind you - the whiskey bottle has barely left Nadal’s hand since discovering he's been drawn to play the famed conqueror of Dominik Kellovsky and Lorenzo Sonego tomorrow. As he sways precariously on the practice courts - his home for the past week - you really can't blame Uncle Toni for his frustrated attempts to book his nephew into a dehydration clinic. Not his fault Simona Halep has already beaten them to it.
Mind you, that was nothing compared to the frustration players experienced during their meal out earlier today. Things didn’t begin well when Sara Errani learnt the restaurant had run out of pasta bake, whilst former Delray Beach finalist Donald Young nearly tore the menu in half when he saw the sum of a biscuit. Chaos broke out when Verdasco refused to pass Nick Kyrgios the salt, although it certainly made Dan Evans snort with laughter. David Ferrer insisted on saying grace, but emergency services had to be called when he fell from it a few moments later. Jerzy Janowicz lost track of how many times he asked for a drinks refill before staff were moved to tears at the heartwarming tip left behind by Pete Sampras.
Meanwhile, tournament organisers have come under more heat than a hot tub with Radek Stepanek, after failing to meet Anderson's appearance fee requirements this year. Many players have spoken out amongst the media circus surrounding his absence, with Jared Donaldson quick to profess his disappointment at their 'unprofessional actions' and Feliciano Lopez adding that tournament directors should know their place. No-one will be more disappointed than Carballes Baena - he'd been on the waiting list for almost a year for the 30 minute practice slot he'd been able to pencil in with the South African this week. Not that he'd be needing it for tomorrow's match.

I figured - it's fairly easy to find out how many times players have been to the semis, finals etc., but the third round is kind of an intermediate stage, they've had a decent tournament at least, and won two games - so which players reach the round of 32 most often?
There have been 33 slams so far in the 2010s (if you include the current one), so that's the maximum amount that could have been achieved. Bold indicates they are playing in the third round of the 2018 Australian Open currently.

2016.04.05 18:17 AceRohstein Algorithmic Tennis Betting

Hello fellow Betters,
I'm a mathematician and I have created an algorithm to predict the result of Tennis matches. On paper this algorithm is beating the betting market by a nice margin, but in theory everybody makes money.
This thread is to validate my results. If my algorithm finds profitable betting opportunities, I'll document them here in advance, so cheating is impossible.
I'll write down the estimated probability for the first player to win the match and the odds that I got for my bet. After the match is done, I'll add the results. So every match will be in the same format.
For today I have only one bet:
Bagdatis vs. Schwartzman Prob = 54.06%, Odds = 2.62
Feel free to tell me your opinion on these estimations. If you think they are too high or too low, I'd be glad to hear your reasons.
Good Luck!

Edit: Here I will keep a table of all results:
Date Game Probability Odds Return
05.04.2016 Bagdhatis vs Schwartzman 54.06 % 2.62 + 1.62

From 15th of January I will start posting the number of units for each bet. As I finished a big update of the algorithm at the same time, I will start counting from 0 again. Last year the algorithm made 51 bets and finished with a positive result of + 1.274 units. Not bad, but this year I hope to achieve a much better performance. I put a lot of work into the system and will bet more frequently in 2017. Good luck!

2016.03.23 23:39 Brian67000 Miami Masters Betting Tips: Fritz and Baghdatis the Picks of Round One

Fritz and Baghdatis the Picks of Round One

The Miami Masters is just starting to kick through the gears now with the first round matches in full flow.
Soon we will know who the seeds face in their second round encounters, but for now we’ll focus on the picks of the first round and any betting tips that stem from these.

Yoshihito Nishioka (1.50) to beat Jared Donaldson

Yoshihito Nishioka looks a good bet at 1.50 against local favourite Jared Donaldson. These two are up and coming star of the game aged 19 and 20 respectively, and in even in their short careers to date it is the Japanese protégé who has had the upper hand on his American counterpart.
They met in Memphis just a matter of weeks ago, and Nishioka took that match 6-4 6-3 in relatively comfortable fashion. He also triumphed in their only other meeting, albeit in three sets, at the Aptos Challenger in 2015.

Ivan Dodig (1.50) to beat Juan Monaco

Alongside the much-celebrated return to the ATP Tour of Juan Martin Del Potro earlier this year, the re-emergence of Juan Monaco garnered a positive response too. A popular player on tour, Monaco has been blighted with injuries in recent years and has only appeared fleetingly in the bigger televised events.
He has a good career record at the Miami Masters, but he will be up against it when taking on the talented Ivan Dodig in the first round. In 2016 alone, Dodig has taken sets from Milos Raonic and Alex Zverev and reached the semi-final of a Challenger event as recently as last week.
Monaco, meanwhile, has only played once on a hard court in a year (he lost), and in matches played on all surfaces he has lost nine of his last twelve.

Taylor Fritz (1.36) to beat Simone Bolelli

Fritz has been one of the success stories of 2016 to date, and the 19-year-old has already reached a ranking event final despite being completely unheralded prior to this year. He also took Jack Sock to a fifth set at the Australian Open, and lifted some silverware at the Happy Valley Challenger event in January.
Simone Bolelli has played six matches in 2016 – and lost five of them. That’s good enough reason to support Fritz here.

Marcos Baghdatis (1.40) to beat Benjamin Becker

Baghdatis is just one of those players that simply cannot be underestimated. Many have written him off in the past, and yet time and time again he comes back to prove the doubters wrong.
Take a look at his last outing at ATP Dubai. There he beat Viktor Troicki, Vasek Pospisil, Roberto Bautista Agut and Feliciano Lopez (all decent players as we know) before succumbing to Stan Wawrinka in the final.
Benjamin Becker is capable on his day, but the fact that he isn’t pulling up any trees on the Challenger circuit is testament to the contrasting fortunes of these two veterans at the moment.

Sergiy Stakhovsky (1.22) to beat Nicolas Jerry

The more experienced Ukrainian should have too much firepower for his youthful Chilean opponent here.
Stakhovsky is a regular in the latter stages of Challenger events on hard courts, while Jerry is still very much a clay court specialist after being reared on the red stuff at home in South America.
The fact that Stakhovsky has taken two sets off Wawrinka in 2016 already and beaten the wily Feliciano Lopez speaks volumes. This is the pick of today’s betting tips from Bet Advisor.

Caroline Garcia (1.36) to beat Mirjana Lucic-Baroni

It’s been a strong start to 2016 for Garcia, with two ranking event semi finals under her belt and a pair of victories for her native France in the Fed Cup. She’ll be looking for a good run in Miami.
Mirjana Lucic-Baroni is handy but time is beginning to tell with those 34-year-old legs of hers. She is a solid performer, but only advancing past the last 16 in one of five events entered this year speaks volumes.

Monica Puig (1.36) to beat Catherine Bellis

Reaching the final of WTA Sydney in January was something of a landmark moment for Puig, and while since then she hasn’t really kicked on – a couple of last 16 places apart – the confidence that run in Australia gave her will stand her in good stead against a 16-year-old making her first start in a ranking event.

2015.01.06 03:40 egn56 /r/tennis 2015 January Power Rankings

Welcome to /tennis Power Rankings
First of all I'd like to thank the handful of interested supporters going into this power ranking after the positive response I received from my first post. There were a couple of people who I reached out to, who got back to me a bit late and I missed them as getting involved with the power rankings, but I will definitely be sure to get you involved with the next one. If anyone else is interested shoot me a message and as long as we don't get too many people I will get you involved, as it is important to not have the panel get too large as it might become messy. With that being said thanks to Eagled1001 dreamerkid001 Red_Cadeaux robintow SwarlesBarkely05 HenMeister Domathoine Wigley123 for partaking in this edition of these power rankings.
Ranking System Explanation
Each panelist was asked to rank the 15 players they felt were looking the best going into 2015 with a bit more emphasis placed on more recent results and upcoming tournaments. These set of ranking was done prior to Christmas, but the descriptions were written at a later date. A 1st place vote gave a player a score of 15 and a 15th place vote gave a player a score of 1. The totals were added together and averaged based on the amount of votes received. Without further ado, below is the rankings and a recap for each player ranked going into 2015.
The Rankings
Rank Player Change ATP Rank 2015 ATP Record Recap Score
1 Novak Djokovic - 1 - Seven titles, eight finals and a Wimbledon title in 2014 means that Djokovic tops the pre-season power rankings with little argument. The world number 1 stamped his dominance in the world of tennis in style, winning matches with unparalleled shot-making, and, as Federer painfully found in Wimbledon, defensive skills which lifted him trophies time and time again. With a limited off-season, his form shouldn’t be too different from the end of 2014, so watch out for him in the Australian Open, where he is undoubtedly the favourite. He begins his season at the Qatar Open, where he’ll probably meet little resistance on his way to the final. 15
2 Roger Federer - 2 - After capturing five titals, two of which were Masters 1000s, and making it all the way to the Wimbledon final, Roger Federer topped off a solid season with a Davis Cup Final clinching victory over France's Richard Gasquet, Roger Federer comes into 2015 brimming with confidence and poised for another run at adding to his record holding Grand Slam trophy case. 13.875
3 Stan Wawrinka - 4 - After having an incredible breakthrough year in 2014, 2015 will be a tough act to follow. Wawrinka compiled a very telling 39-17 record in 2014, but what is more noteworthy is his 22-3 record for the first 4 months of the season (through Monte Carlo). If Wawrinka can find a balance in 2015 mentally, and keep it "together" for long periods of time, expect another big result. First up for Stan is defending his Chennai title, and then returning to Melbourne. 12.375
4 Kei Nishikori - 5 - Nishikori is coming off of a breakthrough year including his best Grand Slam result (USO Final), two 250 titles, two 500 titles, and a Masters 1000 Final in which he nearly beat Nadal on clay. His performances earned him his first WTF Finals where he advanced to the semifinals and lost to Djokovic in three sets. Nishikori is coming into 2015 with good chance of picking up points at 3 of the 4 majors, due to only making it past the quarterfinals at the USO. That being said, Nishikori's fitness has always been shaky, and that's most likely what his season will depend on. Check him out at the Brisbane International where he's defending a semifinal appearance for his first tournament of the year. 11.25
5 Rafael Nadal - 3 - Injury and recovery sums up Nadal’s 2014 season, but, as he’s proven to the tennis world, when he comes back – he comes back healthy, and absolutely ruthless. Whilst he spent much of 2014 absent from play, it cannot be ignored that his season was still fantastic, highlighted by his 9th Roland Garros trophy. His characteristically physical game, coupled with mind bending spin makes him almost untouchable, provided that he’s healthy enough to execute his game. While he lost to Andy Murray 2-6 0-6 in an exhibition match, we’ll see his competitive form at the Qatar Open, Where he joins Djokovic in their lead up to the Australian Open. 10.125
6 Andy Murray - 6 - After season ending back surgery in September of 2013, 2014 was not Andy Murray's finest year on tour. Although he did win three titles, he failed to defend his Wimbledon crown, bowing out to Grigor Dimitrov in the quarters. Last season ended poorly at the ATP World Tour Finals for Andy. His only round robin win came over Milos Raonic, and he suffered a 6-0, 6-1 walloping at the hands of Roger Federer in his final match. After an apology to his fans, Andy promised to dedicate himself fully to his offseason training, so look for him to come out swinging down under in the Australian summer. 9.875
7 Tomas Berdych - 7 - Berdych has cemented himself as a staple in the top 10 and had the misfortune of losing to both of the new slam winners last year in their victorious runs. Unfortunately not much has changed with reagrds to his game in the past few years and it seems like he is going to still hang around on the cusp of greatness. 7.875
8 Marin Cilic - 9 - These rankings were done before Cilic announced his withdrawal from Brisbane due to a lingering shoulder injury, which is only making it look worse for the Croat as of late. The US Open champ has been regressing a bit after his spectacular run. The unforced error count is high as his big groundstroke game failed him as he bowed at 0-3 in the World Tour Finals. This change is the key difference between his dominating late round US Open performances where he was averaging almost 14 more winners than errors. Cilic is looking to find his form again as he can’t win matches based on reputation. However, the first quarter of the year has been good for Cilic historically. Cilic has won 7 of his 15 titles in the first three months of the year and has been to the 4th round or better at 4 of his 7 Australian Opens. Hopefully his health allows it. 7.625
9 Milos Raonic - 8 - After hanging around just outside the top 10 for the past two years Raonic was finally able to convert a few big wins to push him into the top 10. He made the quarters in the French Open and the semifinals at Wimbledon establishing himself amongst the best. In addition his consistency carried into the Masters 1000s, where he made quarterfinals or better in 7 of the 9 tournaments. Raonic closed his season with one of his best performances in Paris making the final with his first victory against Roger Federer. However, this brings up his biggest problem which is beating the top 3 guys. Raonic is a combined 1-16 against Federer, Djokovic and Nadal with that sole win being the Paris win. His baseline game disappears in the big moments and he can’t move with the best, so he’ll need to tighten those up if he plans to breakthrough in 2015. He’ll be in action to start the 2015 season at Brisbane after a loss to Berdych in the World Tennis Championship exhibition in Thailand. 7.375
10 David Ferrer - 10 - Ferrer has been placed at his actual ranking of #10, which is a bit shocking considering his past three years in the top 5. However, 2014 was marked with relative inconsistency and a lack of his usual dominance over top-ten players ranked under him (Such as Nishikori and Berdych). He performed well in Masters 1000 tournaments (making two finals), but failed to make it past a quarterfinal at the majors. It's hard to imagine somebody who has played as much physical tennis as Ferrer improving his game at age 32, but it's agreeable that it's still too early to sleep on the veteran in any matchup not including Federer or Djokovic. Check him out at the Heineken Open where he's defending a semifinal for his first tourney of the year. 6.625
11 Grigor Dimitrov - 11 - Dimitrov finally shed the baby Federer nickname as he came into his own last season. He won three titles across all the surfaces and seemingly overcame his inconsistency issues, with a minor blip in the French. His fitness showed significant improvement, as the cramping he’d become known for wasn’t evident in the latter half of the season. Dimitrov’s big time match play post Wimbledon however was less than stellar. He was a dismal 1-5 against top 20 opponents compared to his 8-5 record before that. The elite have always been a problem for him as well with a losing record against 8 of the top 10 players. He’s been known for his poor decision making against the top players, which will need to change if he wants to become a consistent top 10 force. The big guys have been giving him praise though, Djokovic touting him as a potential grand slam champion this year, but Dimitrov is aware that he needs to prove himself and take that next step. Dimitrov will be opening his season in the stacked Brisbane tournament. 5.375
12 Gael Monfils - 18 - Although Monfils did not win a title in the second half of the year he was in great form. He had a strong showing at the US Open making the quarterfinals, beating 14th ranked Gasquet and 8th ranked Dimitrov before bowing out in 5 sets to Roger Federer. Monfils post Wimbledon record was 14-5 with 4 of his 5 losses coming from the top 2 players, Djokovic and Federer. He finished off the year dominating Federer in the Davis Cup final with a straight set victory. He traditionally plays well in the opening quarter of the year so look for him to make a hot start at his season opener in Auckland. 3.375
13 Jo Wilfred Tsonga - 12 - Throughout his whole career injury has been the biggest issue for Tsonga, but 2014 marked a change. It was his first season as a pro he did not retire from a match or withdraw from a tournament, but the question is, is it too late? Tsonga saw a dip in form in 2014 marking the first time since 2008 he did not finish top 8 at a major. Although it appears he has made peace with his body, his game is not what is used to be. The movement dipped and the explosive all court game he was known for seemed to fall apart as unforced error counts rose. He still showed glimpses of greatness winning his second master series title, but it was only one of his 5 quarterfinal or better finishes in 18 tournaments and the only week all year he beat any top 10 players, although he did beat 4. The game is still there once in a while, but Tsonga is going to need to bring it week in and out if he expects to find his way back into the top 10 again. 3
14 Roberto Bautista Agut - 15 - 2014 proved to be a great year for Bautista Agut as he brought home the ATP Most Improved Player award for his breakout performance. His year started with a breakout run in the Australian Open where he took down Juan Martin Del Potro on a run to the fourth round. He was able to follow that performance up with two titles on the year and making 3rd round or better at all majors. His counterpunching play style has likened him to his compatriot David Ferrer, but with no notable weapons he struggles at beating the top. He’ll be in action this week in Chennai to open up his tennis season. 1.875
15 Ernests Gublis - 13 - 2014 was a very up and down year for the Latvian. After losing early in several events early on, Gulbis went on a hot streak in the Spring, winning Marseille, and performing well in Acapulco and Indian Wells. Gulbis would go on to beat Federer at Roland Garros, and then struggle with form and injury for the remainder of the season. If Gulbis can remain healthy and go deep into tournaments where the court speed favors his game (medium-low speed, high bouncing balls), expect Gulbis to return to the Top 10. 1.125
Others Receiving Votes: Juan Martin Del Potro (0.875), Gilles Simon (0.5), John Isner (0.5), Feliciano Lopez (0.25), Tommy Robredo (0.25)

2012.08.27 21:25 Bounce_hit This is the kind of crap that is ruining tennis clips on youtube!

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=videos&search_query=feliciano+lopez&search_sort=video_date_uploaded&page=1
If you try to search for some player's name just to see if someone has uploaded new practice clips or whatever you are bombarded with pages of videos that are just links to (quite frankly, horrible) sites to watch awful quality streams of matches.
Is there a way to sop this!?
